Experiences, Rewards and Motivation
Joey: In this tournament I felt many kids my age are quite good at chess and was definitely getting more pressure. I am very happy to win the prizes in the end and it boosted my confidence. I will try to do more puzzles and play more tournaments in the future.
Vicky: I really enjoyed this year’s AJCC because I got to play with my friends, even if they were annoying me every other minute. I also got to chat with some of the players from other states which was great. The competition was tough so I didn’t expect to get any medals, which is why I was so pleased and surprised when I received them.
Leo G: Leo’s feeling through out the tournament: Exciting. He had forfeited one game due to wearing a smart watch and he felt very sad, then he went on to win 4 games in a row to finish the whole thing.
Ike: I was very stressed, but I told myself to calm down.
From Genevieve’s mum:
We are very honoured to be part of this Australian Junior Chess Championship (AJCC) competition in January 2024. Being initially worried about my daughter with zero experience in this kind of tough competition, Jilin gave us lots of encouragement and also support to make sure my daughter had enough skills and confidence to take this journey. During the competition, my daughter made great friends with her peers and also had her first experience to sit in this challenging competition. I can see most of the kids were lost for their first day and had no clue what they were doing, but with the days passing, the kids were getting more confidence and calm and getting the hang of this competition. As being a parent, we were quite nervous to observe our kids at the backstage and our emotions were like roller-coasters. This competition let our kids feel excited, nervous, challenging, sad and most importantly much stronger. This journey brought the kids who love chess together; brought the parents who support their kids together and brought our experienced coaches together. Looking forward to AJCC again next year and hope more kids will join this competition. Last but not least, thank you for Jilin to share this competition to let the kids have this memorable experience during the school holiday and also thank you for our coaches to provide problem-solving and analysis classes.
Thank you parents and all the lovely children, it was a privilege to get to know you better through this trip. You guys are amazing and certainly gave me lots of inspiration and expectation as a teacher.
AJCC 2025 will most likely be in Perth WA, I am looking forward to brighter future for JZMC students!
